Healthy Meal Idea!

Need a healthy meal idea before baking with one of our best cheesecake recipes?

Our good friend Cassandra over at was kind enough to donate an article to help us all think a bit healthier for dinner before we indulge in our favorite cheesecake recipe! Beans:

The Magical Fruit

Written by: Casandra Gout of

Remember that song in grade school? Beans, Beans the Magical Fruit, the more you eat the more you… All jokes aside, Beans truly are one of nature’s great gifts to human kind. In every culture, some type of bean is typically one of the staple foods.

What is it that makes the bean so wonderful?

  • Variety: There are so many different types of beans from Black to Kidney, Garbanzo to Lima, White to Lentil and the list goes on and on.
  • Versatility: Almost any type of dish can be created out of beans, right down to dessert with a dish of Red Bean Ice Cream. Make soup, stir fry and chili for main dishes. Add veggies and serve up as a side. Throw into a salad to boost the heartiness of the meal. Make a dip to share at a party. Beans are especially useful when cooking for a vegetarian, as most recipes don’t need meat at all.
  • Nutrition: Low in fat, yet high protein and fiber, there isn’t another type of food that can boast so many healthful qualities. Beans also help keep you full between meals.
  • Durability: Dried and canned beans can be stored for years before they need to be used, so any season is a good season to start cooking. Get creative with some recipes, and see what you can come up with.

To get you started try this Broccoli & Bean Salad recipe and then finish with a delicious cheesecake recipe from here at OKC’s Best Cheesecake Recipes! Enjoy,

Weight Loss Tips that have Nothing to do with Diet or Exercise!

written by Cassandra Gout- Webhost of

Of course we all know that in order to lose weight, we are supposed to eat healthy and be active. However, these 2 activities are not the end all, be all to weight loss.
There are a few simple things that we can do in our everyday lives that will help increase energy and metabolize fat, without counting or burning a single calorie.

1. Sleep!– Our bodies actually burn fat while we are sleeping. Unfortunately, many people don’t get enough sleep per night, especially quality REM sleep. Although eight hours of sleep per night is the accepted standard, anywhere between 6 and 10 may be ideal for you. Here are some tips to help cut down on tossing and turning:

a. Make sure the room is dark and quiet. Light and sound confuse the brain making it difficult for the body to engage in full rest. (if you need the television to fall asleep, set a timer so it turns off automatically)
b. If a quiet sleep environment isn’t a possibility due to a snoring partner or living on a busy highway, invest in some soft ear plugs.
c. Avoid caffeine in the afternoon. It may be difficult at first, but by getting better sleep, your body will have more natural energy.
d. Try not to eat within 3 hours of bedtime as your body breaking down the food in your system disrupts sleep. If you must eat something, choose a healthy protein, such as low-fat milk, or almonds.
e. Stick relatively close to a sleeping schedule.

2. Stay Hydrated– By drinking plenty of fluids, your body is constantly burning calories and you don’t feel as hungry throughout the day. Sometimes, your brain doesn’t know the difference between hunger and thirst, and you feel like you need to eat, when all you’re really lacking is fluids.

3. Get a Hands-On Hobby– It sounds silly, but idle hands tend to wander. And many times they wander into the cupboards or refrigerator hunting for snacks. Instead of flipping through channels on your couch, popping M&Ms, learn how to do something that will keep your fingers busy. Need ideas?

a. Learn to play guitar, piano or ukulele

b. Paint, sew or craft

c. Start a blog

4. Eat!– Starvation only confuses the body, so when we deprive ourselves of food, we go into Fat-Storage mode. Then, we typically over eat once food is finally presented. The body thinks, “Fantastic, more to store away in the thighs and tummy!” If you’re hungry in between meals, find a snack to tide you over so that you don’t pig out come mealtime. So unless you plan on becoming anorexic (which is a terrible plan) you’re going to have to feed yourself to lose weight.

Mint Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

Mint chocolate chip cheesecakeEver heard of a mint chocolate chip cheesecake recipe?

Neither had I until I ran across this cheesecake recipe a couple months ago. My husband orders mint chocolate chip every single time we go out for an ice cream treat. So as soon as I showed him this, he’s eyes lit up.  I don’t make it often but when I do, you can bet he always gets a bit excited.  With a hint of mint and yummy chocolate this is sure to be a crowd pleaser! It does get a bit rich so you likely won’t down more than one slice, but that ONE slice is pure mint chocolate delight.  If you have Mint chocolate chip lovers in your home, make their day and surprise them with this recipe.  Be sure and come back and give us the details of how it went.

Bananas Foster Cheesecake Recipe

Bananas Foster Cheesecake, can you eat even one piece?

Bananas Foster Cheesecake Recipe

With 48oz of softened cream cheese this is definitely a thick and dense Bananas Foster Cheesecake Recipe. The ingredients all compliment each other so well.  Be careful letting your eyes determine how much of this beauty you can eat.  I highly recommend you plate about half of what you think you can eat.  The density really fills the tummy, but oh how wonderfully good this cheesecake tastes.  This bananas foster cheesecake recipe also calls for 6 tbsp’s of rum, so you may have to hit the local liquor store before baking according to these instructions.  I can only imagine a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream along side this bananas foster cheesecake! If you bake one, please come back and let us know how it turned out!

Simple Basic Cheesecake Recipe

A basic cheesecake recipe is all you need!

Basic Cheesecake RecipeThis is the first basic cheesecake recipe I mastered at home.  I remember just 6 years ago, the thought of being able to create a restaurant style cheesecake in my kitchen seemed like a farfetched fairy tale.  It wasn’t until I attended culinary school that I learned just how simple it is to create an amazing basic cheesecake! This recipe doesn’t require any special out of the norm ingredients, ok well cornstarch isn’t always included in a cheesecake but most of us have that in our pantry.Basic Cheesecake Recipe, Simple  The great thing about this recipe is that it’s perfect with or without toppings.  Some of us truly appreciate the rich creamy heaven that’s derived from a pure, basic cheesecake recipe.  No fancy toppings, no outlandish drizzle,  just delicious yummy cheesecake! However, you can’t go wrong if you prefer a topping, we just don’t include one for this cheesecake recipe.  Let your imagination run wild, or not, either way, every great cheesecake begins with a basic cheesecake recipe.  We would love some feedback concerning this recipe.  Do you have a simple or basic recipe that we don’t have? If so, please share with us and tell your story.  We would greatly appreciate if you would take a quick second and PIN this simple basic cheesecake recipe and/or share it with your Facebook or any other social media account! Word of mouth through social media has allowed our site to take off beyond our expectations.

It’s just the best I have at the moment, once we’ve baked this cheesecake recipe we will post our actual picture.  If you have a best cheesecake recipe you would like to share, please submit it to us and we will quickly get it posted.  Enjoy and looking forward to your comments and pictures.

Caramel Apple Cheesecake Recipe

An Absolutely Mouth Watering Caramel Apple Cheesecake!

caramel apple cheesecake recipeOur Caramel Apple Cheesecake recipe will have your family begging for another slice.  Like a caramel apple from the fair, this cheesecake recipe will be a dessert that quickly becomes a family favorite.  Caramel apples aren’t typically a treat that is eaten often.  Something tells me that after you bake this gem of a cheesecake, you’ll be experiencing that caramel apple taste much more frequently.  It doesn’t get much easier to achieve such a great tasting dessert.  This cheesecake recipe originally called for a store bought graham cracker crust.  We prefer making our own so this recipe has been edited to make your own crust.  If your in a hurry or just prefer a store bought crust, feel free and just skip the steps for preparing the crust.  This Caramel Apple Cheesecake recipe is one of our holiday recommendations.  This would make for a refreshing new addition to any family’s Thanksgiving or Christmas desserts table.  Enjoy your Caramel Apple Cheesecake and let us know how it turns out for you.

Please take a moment and PIN this recipe and / or share us on your favorite social media site.  Our visitors taking us viral through sharing has created massive viewership of our site and we are tremendously grateful for them doing so.

Fitness Myth

Running on a treadmill puts less stress on your knees than running on asphalt or pavement.

“Running is a great workout, but it can impact the knees — and since it’s the force of your body weight on your joints that causes the stress, it’s the same whether you’re on a treadmill or on asphalt,” says Todd Schlifstein, DO, a clinical instructor at New York University Medical Center’s Rusk Institute.

The best way to reduce knee impact, says Schlifstein, is to vary your workout.

“If you mix running with other cardio activities, like an elliptical machine, or you ride a stationary bike, you will reduce impact on your knees so you’ll be able to run for many more years,” says Schlifstein.

Just posted on MSNBC, interesting read regarding Vitamins

Most in U.S. get enough vitamins, nutrients

By MyHealthNewsDaily Staff

Americans may not eat the healthiest diets, but most get adequate levels of essential vitamins and nutrients, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For most nutrients, less than 10 percent of the population is deficient, the report showed.

However, deficiency rates vary by age, gender and ethnicity, and close to a third of African-Americans were deficient in vitamin D, the report said.

These higher deficiency rates are a concern and need more attention, said study researcher Christine Pfeiffer, of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health.

The report gave the results of an analysis of blood and urine samples collected from people between 2003 and 2006, measuring levels of 58 nutrient markers.

For the U.S. as a whole, 10.5 percent of people were deficient in vitamin B6, 8.1 percent were deficient in vitamin D, 6.7 percent were deficient in iron, 6 percent were deficient in vitamin C, 2 percent were deficient in Vitamin B12, and less than 1 percent were deficient in vitamin A, E and folate.

Vitamin D deficiency was 31 percent among African-Americans, 12 percent among Mexican-Americans and 3 percent among whites. Further research is needed to explain why non-Hispanic blacks have better bone health but yet have a higher rate of vitamin D deficiency, the report noted.

Iodine levels among women ages 20 to 39 years may need improvement. This age group had iodine levels that were, on average, just above iodine insufficiency, the report said.

Iodine is an essential component of thyroid hormones, which regulate growth and development. Iodine is especially important in women during childbearing years to ensure proper brain development of the fetus during pregnancy.

The report found higher rates of iron deficiency among Mexican-American children ages 1 to 5 (11 percent), blacks (16 percent), and Mexican-American women of childbearing age (13 percent) when compared with other race/ethnic groups.

One particular public health success story has been increases in folate levels in recent years. Blood folate levels in are 50 percent higher in all ethnic groups since the country began fortifying cereal-grain products with folic acid in 1998, the report said.

The CDC plans to further analyze the data to identify the influence of socioeconomic and lifestyle factors on levels of nutrient levels, the agency said.

Interesting!!! borrowed from Webmd

Why Trying to Be Good Is a Bad Idea

WebMD Feature from “Redbook” Magazine

The instant you label any food or behavior “good” or “bad,” you’re practically guaranteeing you won’t reach your goals, warns Redbook’s Real-Life Healthy Life nutrition expert Lisa Young: A single falter (a clandestine donut or skipped workout) is interpreted by your brain as total failure. And since you’re “off your diet,” you’re free to enjoy another donut (or a dozen) until you’re ready to commit to another slim-down plan.

But as Young reminds us, it’s important to teach ourselves that one slipup doesn’t eradicate all prior success, and a truly healthy lifestyle doesn’t have any extremes-meaning a guilt-free donut here and there is not only better than a dozen, but it’s also better than no donuts at all! Here, how to short-circuit the good/bad mindset for good:

– Legalize all foods you consider forbidden; nothing should be off-limits. Once you’re allowed occasional treats, you won’t feel deprived or believe you’re cheating-which in the end just brings on binges.

– When you do slip up, silence negative thoughts (“I’ve been bad”) by instead focusing on the progress you’ve made that same day (“I’ve had six glasses of water”). This helps you stay grounded in reality, so you’re less likely to devise an excuse that facilitates more unhealthy choices (“I’m a screw-up, and screw-ups deserve to be fat…might as well have another piece of cake”).

– If you make an unhealthy choice, simply make it a trade-off with something healthy later in the day or first thing the next morning. For instance, stretch your walk an extra 20 minutes, or skip the cheese and mayo on your turkey burger.

Got a Migrain?

Take fresh Ginger at the onset of a Migrain!

Aside from ginger giving us that strong peppery taste that flavors our food so well, according to a study done at a University in Denmark, ginger has been successful in relieving the pain associated with migraines.  The earlier you take it, the faster it works. It apparently works similar to aspirin in that it blocks the chemical that causes inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain.

Recipe for Ginger Honey Tea:

1 tbsp fresh grated ginger or 1 tsp powdered ginger
Juice of ¼ of a lemon
1 tbsp honey
1 cup boiled water

Combine all ingredients and let simmer for 6 minutes. (If using fresh ginger, strain before you drink)

Drink several cups throughout the day.

Note: This recipe is also great for colds and flu!

Ginger has had good results for relieving motion sickness, queasy stomach or other digestive difficulties.
